My inlaws gave a card like this to my daughter for her birthday. I've been eyeing it for a month now, looking at it, trying to figure out how it was made, and if I could reproduce it. When I saw today's way to use it challenge for National Gardening Day, I knew it was time for me to give it a try.
What do you think?
Next day edit:
Wow, everyone responses have been incredible! I've never done a tutorial so I'm going to try to explain how this was done here.
The card is basically 2 pieces of paper. The outside (wild wasabi here) is folded in half with the seam at the bottom of the card. The top is then folded down (or could be removed I guess).
Then inside piece is decorated at one end, flipped over and turned over, and decorated at the other (decorations/flowers pointing opposite directions on opposite sides of the page.) Decide what layer you want in front and, making sure that is in front, fold the page in half, then make that side shorter by folding 3/4" in from the center fold.
Adhere the center 3/4" base of the inside piece 3/4" away from the seam on the inside front cover of the outside piece.
Decorate and add a last layer to the inside back of the outside piece. Make it about 1" taller than the middle layer. Since my layers do not have blunt cuts, it's a bit hard to give exact measurments... sorry!
Finally I used some left over strips to make the braces: fold a strip into 3 sections. It doesn't matter how long the strips are so long as the center section is 3/4" long. Adhere the 2 end pieces between the front and middle layers, ends pointing down, and another between the middle and back layers. I used 2 different lengths and put one towards the left and the other towards the right side to give it some stability.
Finally decorate the front and inside front of your cover.
I hope this helps. If anyone knows how to make a real tutorial, that would be great!

Really really cool. I have spent a couple of hours trying to figure out how you did it. Mine is very thick and bulky, but the next one will be better, I hope. Yours is awesome! Thanks for sharing. twila
