Yes, the heat setting makes the chalk ink permanent, you don't have to use a sealer so the tiles remain absorbant and they do not run when they get wet. I did have to seal the white craft with a thin layer of Crystal Effects -- it didn't remain permanent when heat set. Otherwise, I've tested them by soaking them with water! I can't attest yet as to how the chalk ink holds up over time with wear and fading, though. But I'm sure they will be fine.
