Yes, I know the name of the set is Sassy Suzie, I was just trying to be a smarty pants! And, this is Suzie's debut, for me at least.
This card is for this week's color challenge, and I have to admit that I was stumped on this one. The colors were real red, glorious green, and night of navy- what do you make with those colors??? Well, I spent all day yesterday and a good part of today thinking this over. I finally decided that I would ink up Suzie for the first time and make a birthday card with her.
The trick for me was to use these colors without making the card look like it is for Christmas- I am definitely a procrastinator and totally not in Christmas card mode right now! I decided to use the real red and navy for the main colors, and accent with the green. The red panel is stamped with the Polka Dot bg in night of navy ink. I used the corner rounder to create the scalloped border on the night of navy panel. Suzie is stamped on whisper white cs and that is matted with glorious green cs. I tore the edges of the green matting, just to add some texture to the card. I colored Suzie with blender pens and the Stampin' Up! pastels, my first time to try that out! I stamped the sentiment in whisper white craft ink on the navy panel. On the inside I stamped "or is it just the candles on your cake?" in night of navy ink. This was a pretty simple card, so I wanted to add some embellishments to liven' it up a little. I tied a piece of navy 1/4" grosgrain ribbon around the whisper white panel and knotted it through a ribbon clip from the pewter Hodgepodge Hardware. I added the brads in a few of the scallops in the navy panel, it just felt like there needed to be more along that border. I also added the flowers and brads down by the sentiment. The flowers were made with the Three for You punch.
Like I said, this is a pretty simple card, but I am happy with the final result and that I was able to make these colors work.
Thanks for looking!
