Today's technique challenge was to make a project using the dahlia fold. Here is the link that Dannie (out guest host this week) provided to make the dahlia fold: http://www.cardsandcrafts.freeservers.com/dahlia.html.
I used my blue bayou Prints dsp to make my dahlia. Instead of a regular circle punch, I used my scalloped circle punch to make the petals. I alternated the directions of my folds for each of the eight petals, so that both sides of the dsp could be seen. My dahlia is about 3 1/2 inches in diameter. I used my crop-a-dile to put a jumbo pewter brad and a clear rhinestone brad in the center of the flower. I used blue bayou and creamy caramel cs for the rest of the card. I used the bayou for matting. On all of the caramel pieces, I stamped the flourish from Baroque Motifs in blue bayou ink. On the thin vertical strip, I ran a piece of blue bayou double stitched ribbon through a pewter ribbon slide (from Hodgepodge Hardware). I stamped the sentiment from All Holidays in blue bayou ink on a piece of creamy caramel. I punched it out with the large oval punch and ran the edges of the oval in my blue bayou ink pad. I punched out a piece of blue bayou cs with my designer label punch and used it to mat the oval sentiment. The entire sentiment panel is up on dimensionals. I used my crop-a-dile to put in the the pewter brads on the sentiment oval and in the corners of the large bg panel. I used the ticket corner punch on the corners of the large bg panel, and on the square panel under the dahlia.
I wasn't too sure about this as I was working on it, but I am really happy with the final product! I also only used Stampin' Up products on this card- and they are all current too! I am signing up as a demo this Friday, so I am challenging myself to make some cards that could be used in workshops or classes.
Thanks for looking and I hope you like my bayou dahlia!
