Yes--take the corner guide off, and put the card stock in as far as it will go. I actually like to turn the punch upside down so I can see what I'm doing! Then, punch, slide the paper over, punch again, etc. It will take a long time to get it right if you don't turn the punch upside down. Or maybe that's just me being spatially-challenged again! ;)
If you've never taken the corner guide off, just sort of pull down on the little "wings" that are around the bottom of it--it will pop right off, and slide back on again realy easily. No one told me that, and I discovered it by accident once--I thought I'd broken a brand-new punch!

I love this technique and the wrought iron punch is one of my favourites. Did you use your craft knife to cut any parts out? I guess mine need a little practice. It's a beautiful card.
