I had this Noël stamp (by Magenta) that I really didn't know how to use, besides embossing with gold or silver powder, because the letters are blocked in - it's not a true line image stamp. So I inked it up with pale blue ink, stamped it on scrap paper, and then without re-inking, stamped it on the card. This way, the ink was faint enough to be covered with paint, but strong enough for me to see.
Also, the ink is Tim Holtz's Distress Ink (Weathered Wood) so it is extra-helpful because it is NOT water-proof.
