I got the idea for this altered On Board Art Journal from one of the scrapbook magazines I read (can't remember which one and can't find the article!) The author sent home postcards from where she was traveling and when she got home she had the pictures and journaling for an instant scrapbook. My husband is on the road with his job as a wildland aerial firefighter so I asked him to send me a postcard from where ever he ends up on his days off. When I get the postcard I make a copy of the message side, and adhere both in the journal. A nice way to see where he's been and a fun way to keep in touch.
I first sponged the edges of the journal with Chocolate Chip, cut and adhered the strips of Outlaw DSP with Anywhere Glue Stick (the top piece I punched with Spiral punch - a little tricky at first). The back is covered with one piece of the Outlaw DSP. Getting color on the chipboard letters was also tricky. First I just used the classic ink pad (Really Rust) and the color soaked in a lot. Then I thought I'd put on the white craft pad ink and heat set it, and then put the RR classic ink over it. The chipboard still soaked up the color. Someone suggested that I use Gesso to seal the chipboard - next time I'll try taht! I got a rustic look with what I did and I like it. At first I thought I was going to cover the letters with DSP and trip around - forget that! Too time consuming and tricky!
