This is a special card, with a special purpose.
A small community on a reserve in Northern Ontario called Pikangikum, lost their one and only school this spring. It completely burned down. It was the heart of the community and the hub of their social life. It is a great loss to them.
A teacher from the school began a "letters of love" campaign, asking for concerned citizens to write letters of encouragement to the community. I made this card and put a note of encouragement inside. All letters and cards will be read over their radio station and translated into Ojibway. The community needs to know that their plight has been heard by the rest of the country, as they are so isolated in this far northern region. I want to show them that yes, people do know and care what happened to them!
If you want to learn more, or send a card, here are a couple of websites. One recounts their story on CBC, and another shows the address to send cards to:
The story: http://www.cbc.ca/canada/story/2007/...hool-fire.html
And if you want to send a card of encouragement: http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=3398700610
I hope the links work. If they don't, PM me and I'll send them to you that way.
