I tried lacyquilter's technique (VersaMark with Clear EP) and seemed to work the best for me for this challenge. The frame around the faux tiles is a faux 3D frame from My Mind's Eye which I've been holding on to it for the perfect card/scrapbook and this seemed to go great with it.
I stamped the brocade blue behind the frame with a rose image in rose red.
For the tiles I used Purely Pomegranate and Palette O'Prints DP over Going Gray CS. TFL!

This is the first card (probably the only one that I'll see) with octagon tiles! Very inovative. Love the frame around the tiles too! You did a marvelous job on this!!! Your tiles look so real!!
