This card was made for the inspiration challenge found here.
This picture is kinda bright. IRL, this looks much darker. I had absolutely no idea where I was going with this card, so the end result was rather a surprise. I started by clear embossing the butterfly on watercolor paper, then wetting the paper and adding refill ink on the wings. Then I took my aqua painter and spread the ink all over the paper. When it was dry, I sanded it with rough sandpaper. I didn't like all the bare area around the butterfly, so freehand cut away a bunch, sanded some more, distressed the edges with scissors and added some dtp chocolate chip ink. I backed it with black and trimmed that close, then set aside. At this point, I was really stuck. I tried a lot of different color combinations for matting, but nothing looked right. Finally took a piece of blush blossom, stamped flowers and leaves from bodacious bouquet in ballet blue, really rust, ruby red and always artichoke, but the blush was still too bright, so I dragged my chocolate spot across it in both directions (still not enough). Used dry brush jumbo wheel first with caramel and then ruby red (much better). Distressed the edges with scissors and chocolate dtp. I was starting to like it, but still wasn't satisfied. Played with some more accent colors and finally decided on black and ruby red. Added chocolate dtp to the red and craft white to the black and glued them down. Glued down the butterfly and attached eyelets. Added some piercing and glued it all to black card base. And I love the finished card.

Wow Melody this is wonderful! The butterfly panel is awesome (thanks for the instructions); and the background piece is awesome (didn't know it was stamped until I didn't see the paper listed and looked at it harder). Awesome! Thanks for playing!

Wow -- this is terrific! Love the distressed butterfly image -- definitely going to have to try that. And the background ... Wow! All I can say is, Wow! (If you have ever read 'Lilly and the Purple Plastic Purse' by Kevin Henkes, you know that is a compliment of the highest order!)
