Created this for the Ways to Use It Challenge 103 Material Girl, which was to somehow incorporate fabric into a card. I have a few yards of different fabrics from various uncompleted projects that must be at least 8 years old. The newest of these is an oil cloth (that plastic-y coated fabric that is often used to make table cloths, baby bibs, aprons, etc.) with a school/crayon kids type of print. I had initially planned to cover my old childhood toybox for my youngest son with this fabric, but then we moved and that toybox has sat in the attic ever since, and this fabric has been untouched. I can't throw it away or give it to Goodwill, though, because I 'might use it someday.' Well, at long last, that day has come!
I decided to build the card around the fabric (the blue print behind the image layers, and the strips that are tied off of the sentiment). The apples from Ladybuds seemed a perfect fit, and then the idea came to make it a thank you card to give to my son's teacher at the end of the year. The center apple and the sentiment are adhered with 3-D dots. The apples are colored with prismas & gamsol. The background paper is from CTMH's School Zone line. The layout is from Sketch Challenge 113.
