I store my long stamps like the unmounted wheels and my long stamps like the TAC Stitches stamps in a larger plastic box (from TAC or SU). I also store my long acrylic block in this case too. (I had my block custom made by someone on eBay.)
It's pretty easy to unmount them. I take a craft knife and cut through the glue that holds the two ends together on the wheel (where the edges meet). Then I just carefully pull the rubber off of the plastic wheel.
I use the EZ Mount foam that has sticky stuff on one side of the cushion and the vinyl cling on the other side.
I like to index the image on the cling side.
1. I lay the now flat rubber with the "image" side up.
2. Peel the liner off the cling side of the EZ Mount.
3. Ink up the stamp with black Stayz On ink.
4. Line up the lower left corner of the EZ Mount foam (cling side down) with the lower left corner of the inked stamp and press down.
5. Lift this off and set aside for the ink to dry. (I usually wait a couple of hours.)
6. Clean the stamp.
7. When the ink is dry, turn the rubber over so the flat side is up.
8. Peel the paper off the sticky side of the EZ Mount.
9. Line up the lower RIGHT corners of the EZ Mount to the rubber and press together.
Any trimming that you need to do, make sure you are doing this with the rubber side facing you. If you look at my photo, not all of my indexing is right on. The gingerbread men are a little off -- too far to the right, but the actual stamp has the men closer to the left edge. Not a big deal really, at least I know it's off and I can compensate (or use my stamp-a-ma-jig).
** I mounted most of my wheels at one time by laying them image side down, lining them all up and then using repositionable tape on the plain rubber side. Then I turned this new "sheet" of unmounted wheels over, inked them all up and indexed one full sheet of the EZ Mount. Then I cleaned the ink off, flipped them image side down, removed the tape and set the EZ Mount sticky side down onto the rubber. I think I did eight wheels at one time.
