I was watercoloring a card using my aquapainter and an ink pad and my 5-year-old DD, who loves all things arts and crafty, was very interested in what I was doing and was begging me to let her try that on one of the cards I was making. I told her that I needed to make sure these looked very nice because I was going to give them away so sorry, but no.
Then she was bugging me to make one for her so that she could paint like that too. So I told her I don't have this stamp (my wonderful sister stamped them out for me and mailed them to me), but I can stamp out some pictures for her to paint, and she said that was ok.
So later I pulled down this set and stamped out a couple pictures for her and a couple for my son, who is 3. I also pulled out their Crayola water color paints (you know...the ones with ten colors...) and brushes and some water, but as soon as Abby sat down she was asking if she could please paint the way I was painting. I thought about it for a moment and decided that yes, she is usually careful, so I would allow her to use one of my aqua painters and my ink pads. I handed her the pink one I had been using and showed her how to get the paint on the brush and how to use the aqua painter. She painted a couple of things and said she was done with that color and asked, "Do you have any red, Mommy?"
I slowly said, "Yes, I have red." She then asked what other colors I have and I paused for a moment and said, "Well, I have all of these colors," and turned the ink pad box to her and then turned and unzipped the other one and said, "and all of these colors too." Her eyes are popping out of her head now and I held up my color sample ring with strips of all the colors of paper on it and said, "In fact, I have all of these colors in ink pads."
You should have seen her! She then said "WOW!"
and started laughing with delight as she eagerly reached for the papers and flipped through them to find what color she wanted. She had so much fun
choosing color after color to add to her picture and it turned out very nicely and we made it into a birthday card for Grandma.
I just loved her reaction to finding out that I had ALL of those wonderful colors and she could use every one if she wanted to (though I am glad she didn't!) Oh yes. She is a girl after my own heart. :-)
