Getting started:
ATC's started ten years ago with a Swiss performance artist who did a show of a 1,000 such cards. Only two rules - the card has to be 3.5 x 2.5 inches and they are exchanged, never sold.
Storing them is easy, just by the plastic sheets made to store baseball or Pokemon cards - they are cheap and you can get nine cards on one side and another nine on the back. (WalMart has 'em).
So where do you start, since there are so few rules? One place is your "muffed" cards that have a smear or something. Maybe you can chop up the good parts and recyle into a beautiful ATC.
I think the "regular" recommended steps are 1) background 2) central image 3) embellishment.
It's fall now so maybe you would like to experiment with fall colors, or you have a new set of stamps you would like to experiment with. About any technique used on regular cards works for ATC's - and it requires less cardstock

On a previous class day, Judy has everyone sign the library card. Next class, she had copied and reduced the card so everyone's name in our class was incorporated into this ATC.
