Alphabet Challenge this week is "R". So here we are on Rottnest Island - off the coast of Perth in Western Australia. The Dutch explorers who first discover the West coast of Australia thought the island was inhabited by giant rats - hence Rottnest Island. Instead the island was inhabited by a little Australian native.
What are these very cute little creatures? They are Quokkas. They are about knee high and the size of a cat. They are a marsupial and look like a little kangaroo. They are also known for their incredible little "smile". There are so many "quokka selfies" taken with these always grinning creatures. Google Quokka Selfies to have a look at these grinning creatures.
I remember seeing them years ago when I spent a day out on the island. Riding around the island took so long as you had to dodge the quokkas and of course stop to look at them all. Yes - they are incredible sweet little things.
Used a water colour background and stamped, embossed and fussy cut the little quokkas. Stamped a tree image around the edges to frame the quokkas. Added a "smile" sentiment.
Hope you enjoy the trip to Rottnest Island.

Helen when I thought of R I immediately thought of Rotto but have no quokka stamps lol.
We can see the island from our beach path on clear days and would you believe we’ve only visited 3 times. I get very sick going over on the ferry, or used to. It is very expensive now to visit but still the same but glamming camps have popped up. Still mainly accessible using a bike or the local bus. I love that. Our son takes his boat over there with his family as the beaches are beautiful. The quokka I believe are still as friendly. Remember Roger Federer having a selfie with one?
Your card is very cute and cheeky. Happy day from the West my friend.

Oh my goodness, adorable! Your card definitely sends a smile. I had never heard of quokkas and did google quokka selfies and now know what I need to do if I'm having a bad day. Thank you!

Okay, Now that I have spent way too many minutes (or was it hours) staring at Quokkas selfies, just want to say what a fun card you made. I am surprised that they will let you get that close to them. I spent many hours one day trying to photograph Prairie Dogs on a trip to Colorado a few years ago. There were many of them about, but they are very shy and dart back into their burrow when you get too close.
