When did you start wearing blue jeans? I didn't wear them until college, which would have been 1970. Because we still had a dress code for girls in high school until my senior year, I don't even think I owned a pair of blue jeans until college. There is a good PBS program about the history of blue jeans, especially Levi. African American cowboys were some of the first to wear denim, believe it or not.
This card is for today's sketch and ABC20-O is for Oshkosh, WI, which is on the east side of Wisconsin and Oshkosh B'Gosh clothing. They were founded in 1895 in Oshkosh. They have always been particularly known for children's sturdy play clothes, especially hickory striped overalls. That's why I chose the skinny blue and white dsp and added some strips of real denim. I know my son wore a pair of those striped overalls. I thought it needed some spunk so I added the red brocade print. Kind of reminds me of when Maria took down the old curtains and made play clothes for the Von Trapp children. That only happened in the movie, I'm sure.
I know who I'm going to send this to, can't wait to do so. Thanks for the challenges!

Love the corners on your lovely card. Love the strips of actual cloth as accents and your stamped scene is lovely. Out of curiosity I googled about whether the curtain clothing really happened and, according to a New York Times article, the real Maria did the same for the real kids!

This is so cute--I love how it flows diagonally like that. I didn't start wearing jeans until high school--1982-1986. Before that it was all about corduroy! Ha!

Fabulous card Jean. Love the textured fabrics you used. Interesting story too. I didn’t start to wear jeans until my early 20s and then not often. I never thought they suited me. Now I love them lol. Happy day

I love how you’ve used the material and the red gives a splash of colour, I like the stamped images on the slope too
I wore Jeans to go on my Honeymoon as we had a long train Journey to Cornwall, my Aunt was disgusted!
So cute and as always creative! Love your story with it. I don’t think I wore jeans until after I got married. We also had a dress code on our college campus. I really don’t remember when I got my first pair. I mostly wore dresses to work even after I got married. My kids wore Oshkosh.

Jean, what a fun background story to your playful card! I confiscated an old denim shirt from my husband a few years ago. I cut pieces from it for cards every now and then. It's a great way to add texture.
I love the images of the children at play, too. Great card!
