I have finally completed my MMTPT card from last week - better late than never, right?
Lisa and Ann requested we make cards for Michael who is struggling with health issues and is very proud of his Irish heritage. I was inspired by some fields of shamrocks on Google and this fun greeting from DRS Designs which was the first Irish greeting I found in my St Patrick's Day image bag.
To create the shamrock field, I used a variety of different shamrock images from DRS Designs, which I stamped on watercolor paper with various inks. I filled in any open shamrocks with watercolor paints.
I outlined any of the small shamrocks with an Evergreen marker from the Artistry set from Altnew. That is why a few of them look a bit wonky.
Once the shamrock field was complete, I added a touch of magic by embellishing some of the shamrocks with golden centers using Stickles. I decided that rather than paint a rainbow, I would make the sky rainbow colors using a rainbow of watercolor washes. Interestingly, this particular watercolor paper, which was a fun find from my local Thrift store, is the thickest and most absorbent I have ever encountered. It quickly absorbed the paint, making blending a bit of a challenge.
After the paint dried (my microwave helped it dry but remember not to try it as it is dangerous), I stamped the fun Rainbow Gold Greeting in Pine Ink which I also sponged on the edges. To finish it off, I outlined the edge of the watercolor paper with a gold paint pen.
This is now going in the mail to Michael.

I love your soft rainbow sky, it gives a great effect of having just rained.
I once bought a large sheet of Fabriano from an art shop on the same street as our national art college - and it was terrible to work with! I gave up using it for watercolour, so I can identify with your difficulties.

Nancy, this has been a labour of love and determination. Would you just look at that spectacular field of shamrocks and all the work and detail that went into creating it under a beautiful rainbow sky. You’re amazing.

A wonderful field of green clover to send luck and greetings to Michael. Beautifully done. Love all the various shapes and sizes of the clover and your so-called "wonky" doesn't look wonky at all. I love what Sabrina wrote about your wonderful sky looking like it had just rained. Now that is certainly Irish. Gorgeous card, Nancy.
