Well - this was a total experiment! I sketched the coneflower then covered the entire image with masking fluid. I painted over the entire paper with a royal blue and eggplant wash. Once I "thought" it was dry, I removed the original masking fluid then used a wooden skewer to dot some fluid in the center of the flower and add some thin streaks in the petals, leaf and stem. A bit of dry time for my streaks and I set about watercoloring my image.
Here I'll admit that I had envisioned a very pale pink bloom BUT my bg wasn't as dry as I thought, and I got bleed that took the color considerably darker . . . the intensity is growing on me . . . Anyhow when I rubbed off the second app of fluid you can definitely see the tiny white streaks and dots in my image.
Stamped an encouraging sentiment from Unity and embossed with Snow White EP. This will go to my granddaughter as she starts her second semester of college.

You sketched such a perfect coneflower and I love that beautiful leaf. Super work, as alway, on your watercolored card. Oh, and pretty background, also.

Stunning, Linda! Your background looks amazing with the bleeding. Your sketched coneflower is terrific and glad you mentioned how you did the masking fluid twice. Need to try it. I'm finding more uses for it with water coloring. I hope you enjoyed using it because you sure created a beauty. Thanks for sharing it with us.

This is so GORGEOUS!!! I love the way it turned out. I got a small fan from Amazon just to help my wc paintings dry quicker. You can use a heat gun but I feel like that changes something and prefer a cool fan.
