Linda (Holstein) is hosting the WCW challenge this week and gave us a tutorial about using masking fluid and one of the things the artist mentioned is to buy cheap brushes for the masking fluid use. I did that and also Stacy told us about The Masters Brush Cleaner and Preserver. I was in Hobby Lobby and saw it and bought it. I love it and it really does a good job cleaning the masking fluid from the brush.
I also like the Winsor & Newton masking fluid but I love the Pebeo Drawing Gum with the blue tint. It makes it so much easier to see where you are putting down the masking. I bought it at Hobby Lobby, also.
This week we are also painting using masking fluid. I sketched the coneflower, laid down the masking fluid over it, let dry, painted over it to easily fill in around the petals and the background. When dry, I peeled away the mask. The coneflower/stem was nice and white after peeling off the masking fluid and I watercolored it. Fun, fun to create this card.
The tutorial this week is by artist, Emma Lefebvre and is called HOW TO USE MASKING FLUID WITH WATERCOLOR.

WOW! Love the vibrancy of your coneflower and background. I like how easy it is to do backgrounds when the image has masking fluid on it. Wonderful job on this challenge. Thanks for the tips.

I love how vibrant this is and how the background being done over the fluid of the bloom and stem really allows all that paint to play so nicely together and not be all textured and water logged er you know what I mean so pretty Brenda.

Bravo Brenda! This feels like a deep delve into Graphic Arts with the intense blocks of color. And even though we only get a tiny bit of that flower, the vibrant red against the other prime colors really draws the eye.

I love the very bright clear colors on this! The tutorial I watched on masking advised you to use the end of the handle of a paintbrush or a toothpick to apply the masking fluid. It worked well for me on my painting. You can just wipe it off the end of the brush when you're done.

Beautifully done, Brenda! That sunshiny yellow and bold blue background are eye pullers and that stunning peek of coneflower warms and stimulates all things creative. This is such a vibrant beauty, my friend. I have a bottle of over seven years old masking fluid that I’m still meaning to try, lol.
