Color Challenge hosted by Karen. Her fabulous fall colors are Poppy Parade, Crushed Curry, Pecan Pie, and Crumb Cake with anything goes for the dessert option.
My dessert is a background technique. These colors reminded me a cozy autumn quilt. I had enough DSP in the Poppy, Curry, and Crumb Cake colors to do a Herringbone background. I used Pecan Pie cardstock strips to start the pattern and for the card base.
See the tutorial here: Herringbone Tutorials at Splitcoaststampers
Usually I use glue for the strips which allows some wiggle room & slipping into place. This time I tried an adhesive sheet which is less messy, but does requires exact placement. After the piece was done, I dry embossed it with a quilt pattern.
A dear SCS friend, CJ sent me a gatefold card recently which inspired me to make one. I cut the background in half and then glued the pieces to a card base that opens in the middle, just slightly off center.
The happy girl image was heat embossed on watercolor paper and then watercolored with inks. I stamped a sentiment and then die-cut the panel with a stitched rectangle & matted on Pecan Pie. A ribbon was secured around the card. The image panel was attached only on one side, so it would swing to the left when the card is opened. The ribbon was tied to keep the card closed.
I encourage you to explore your creativity with these fantastic colors. If you do not have the exact ones, you can substitute with the best match you have.
Come play along! TFL

That dry embossing looks fantastic! I had to look twice at the details. I love the technique you used and never thought to use my cs this way. It really packs a punch and draws your eye in to the little gal. Love it!

Diane, I don't know which I like better--that adorable little girl with her rake or the fascinating background technique. Make a gatefold card is icing on the cake! What a wonderful card!

What a "wow" card, Diane! I think I have that same little girl image and I'll have to search for it .... I just love how you colored her! I'm always drawn to quilt designs and yours is spectacular! Love how you cut your beautiful quilt in half to create your fun-fold design!
