I began by stamping the wreath on a square of kraft cardstock. I used Distress Oxide inks so the colors would show more true. When I finished all the stamping, I looked at it and tried to decide how I wanted to proceed. I didn't want to slap the panel on a card, add a greeting somewhere, & call it done. I didn't want to cut the panel in half, adhere the halves to a card base, add a greeting strip across the middle to hide the gap, & call it done.
So I took a chance & die cut the wreath with circle dies. And hated the doughnut look of it! But I wasn't starting over at that point, so I decided to try & fussy cut the wreath. I took a cue from Kristina Werner & first penciled a line around the outside & inside contours, to give myself a guide for cutting. I cut the inside first, figuring that would be the more difficult (it was), then did the outside. I erased any errant pencil marks - and that look made me much happier!
I stamped the "Wood Pallet Background" horizontally onto a kraft panel, and inked over the panel with Walnut Stain Distress ink. I wanted the edges darker, and tried Ground Espresso, but that wasn't dark enough. So I tentatively brought in Black Soot. I made sure to keep a light touch with the ink blending, and it worked out great! I matted that panel with red cardstock, & adhered my wreath with foam tape.
I stamped the greeting on kraft cardstock with Lumberjack Plaid Distress Oxide ink, & heat embossed with clear powder. I cut it out with one of the "Grommet Tags" dies, & inked the center (through the die) with Brushed Corduroy, just to add a bit of contrast & interest. I glued it to my card front, & added gold Nuvo Crystal drops over the holes at each end, to look like decorative nail heads. I decided I didn't like the small berries on the wreath as they were, so I went over them with Rhubarb Crumble Nuvo Crystal drops. I let that dry thoroughly, and adhered my card front to a white card base. This card was a struggle of decision-making, but I love how it turned out in the end!
