Viet Nam Army Veteran, Ronald Ruest, is boarding his Honor Flight to Washington D.C. to visit his memorial. As part of this event, the participating veterans receive letters of gratitude. This week the Tea Potters are stuffing Ronald's box with homemade cards and expressions of thanks.
So you all know I love to include symbolism in my cards where I can. Starting from the top: The Viet Nam Memorial Wall is shiny black granite -- so shiny it looks like a mirror. The Wall is actually shaped like a triangle but the base in partially submerged so it looks more like a chevron at ground level. To make my "wall", I coated a piece of white cardstock with black embossing powder. The sentiment directly below is taken from the plague near the Three Servicemen Statue. Next is the U.S. Army's Viet Nam Service Medal Ribbon. And the stacked stars on top represent one of the U.S. Army's logo. It's all mounted on a bg of embossed stars.
I think the Honor Flight program is such a wonderful gift to our veterans. Thank you Shelly for your participation in this most worthwhile of organizations and thank you for bringing us this project so we too can participate.
As an aside, when I showed my card to my husband he totally missed the black chevron being the Memorial Wall. He thought it was the B2 Spy Plane. Well that works too. The B2 has flown over many an event to honor and commemorate our military. But, so much for my being artsy. LOL. TFL

Debbie, this is such an outstanding creation for a Viet Nam veteran. I am blown away by your creativity and the thought you put into this card. The Viet Nam memorial is so moving to see in person; it is my favorite of the war memorials ~ because of its beauty and probably also because I know men who fought in that war and some who died there.

So well designed and thoughtful, Debbie! I feel sure Ron will be touched ... and I'll bet this will bring a tear or two to Ron's eyes!

This is amazing Debbie. I love the different colors of the ribbons. And thank you for the explanation of the black triangle...I've seen the Wall in person and as someone who grew up in the 60s it was such a moving experience. Incredible card for Ron.

this card is spectacular. The personalization showing VietNam is just awesome. You almost needed to type out your description and tape it to the back of his card... but I'm sure he'll understand every aspect of it. Two of my brothers fought in VietNam, at different times, but strangely enough in the location of DaNang. And we wre blessed: both made it home safely...
