Featured Stamper Challenge - FS816 - Sparkly Crystal (crystalkbk) - September 25, 2022
This was an adorable gallery to scroll through, and I was glad to see Crystal active again. I am not the only one who has been enjoying this gallery, as most of the cards I clicked on had thousands of views, with multiple comments and multiple favorites made on each upload. Thanks for sharing your creative and inspirational card designs with us!
I selected this card as my jumping off point. I just love the blue and yellow colors together and the mix of different patterned papers.
I also used blues and yellows together, with mine being much lighter in shade.
I also used a variety of patterned papers, and I think both of our paper selections have a calico/country/prairie vibe.
I used a stitched chevron die to create my own custom background, stacking the different patterns together. The original card was part of a sketch challenge, so I made sure that my layout was completely different. I have done this background technique before and had some scraps leftover from that.
I tend to use critters more on my cards than people images, so I used a mouse in this case. This is a large image, which takes a lot of coloring, so I stamped it on solid cardstock and then used a darker shade of marker to darken the inside of the ears, the belly, and the tail. I fussy cut this out, which was very easy since the image is large and the curly edges of the fuzzie mouse are very forgiving.
I did not add any extra embellishments on my card, keeping it flat, but I absolutely adore the flower, butterflies, and sprigs included on the original card that match perfectly with the color scheme used there.
For my finishing touches, I added a completely different sentiment and it was a happy accident that the tip of the mouse's tail aligned perfectly with the letter "t" in the word "just". I added a small heart, colored with a coordinating blue marker, to the mouse's paws. I also used a black pen to add more of a curve to the mouth, under the nose and whiskers, compared to how the stamp comes, to make it look more like the mouse is smiling, and not such a serious expression.

You've completely melted my heart with Maisie the Mouse .... along with your fantastic background you created with the stitched chevron die!

Super CASE and a super adorable card. It sounds like you put in a lot of work, but the end result is fabulous. Love love love that chevron bg and the various patterns. Smart to stamp on color your image on colored card stock. It looks wonderful and I'm sure made it easier to fussy cut. That squiggly mouse is so cute and I wouldn't have guessed you added the smile if I hadn't read your description. Little touches like that and the blue heart are what take a card from ordinary to special. And this is one especially cute card. Great job.

Fabulous case. Love how you created the background with the chevron and the mixture of patterns. Lovely colors. Super cute mouse. Love that there is a hearts in the hands. Fun detail with the tail curving down to the sentiment. Great card.
