OH MY! I could camp on this challenge for days! I have a wonderful collection of Texas stamps and hardly ever use them. I have to ask myself, *Why?* when I have so much fun when I get them out. Alas, I stole the time from something I SHOULD have been doing to make this card, so one will have to do.
Represented for Texas: A cowgirl with rope and hat, bluebonnets (everybody salute!), brads and leather and stars and the look of tooled leather, and (of course) our official state salute *Yeehaw*!
In reality, people in Dallas only *cowboy up* when it's time for the rodeo (alas!) Fort Worth is the hub of the old cattle trails and they wear their cowboy proudly any day of the week.
Dallas has been invaded with folks from out of state--folks that don't make a pilgrimage to the rodeo and some of them call bluebonnets the wrong name-- *bluebells*--because they can't remember the name. Dallas also has gotten snobby and would rather be known for its sports teams, arts district, and metropolitan shopping and dining.
However, if you want the REAL Texas cowboys, go on out to San Angelo, where my friend (the ex-bull rider) Stoney, goes rattlesnake hunting and raises bulls for the rodeo. That's the Texas we all think of when we think of cowboys.
This card is a tribute to my Mom's cousin who passed away this week. She loved all things Texas and lived life with zest--all the way to the end!

Love this card! I have a brother and his family in Texas- East of Dallas- he took me and DD1 to see the long horn steer run in Ft Worth in April- was so darn cool! Wonderful card- love everything about it!

That is a great card! So many incredible little details...and I love that you used an AI girl! Look at her rope...and the studs..
I really like your back story too. It is true of many places that they can change with growth...Sante Fe in NM did that too from what I hear. lol I am a northerner and I know bluebonnets are your state flower. I did not know locals call them bluebells though.
I am sorry for the loss. Always hard to lose people who brighten a room up.

There is so much attention to detail here and I love all of the texture, such as the brads and the rope. Great representation of the challenge, all of the design elements tell a story about where you live.

I'd love to see bluebonnets in real life. They're one of the very few State flowers that even I know. I think I've read that they are in the lupin family, so I can slightly imagine what they are like. They look super stamped in the state outline like that. And I love the studded "leather" strip.
