Other Keywords: Butterflies, Hugs, Stenciling, SUO
An SCS Alpha friend recently lost her husband, and we are sending her well wishes and thoughts via the Splitcoaststampers' (SCS) Teapot Challenge, 7/5/22..."In A Word!" Each of us is challenged to choose a WORD theme for our cards that represents what we want to say to Kandie. Mine is "Hugs" and goes along with my inside verse of sending along thoughts, prayers and hugs to let her know I care.
My card is made with a stencil and blender brush inking. I made the stencil from the lacy flower die, Artistic Dies, by Stampin' Up, deliberately using white cardstock so that the leftover stencil would finish with lots of inks and could be converted into another card, which can be seen here: My Daughter Grows Beautiful Flowers!
The idea for my design came from a card class (by Luci Kirschbaum) that taught this clever die-cut stencil and two-card idea! I've cased the original cards with changes to both to make them more me. I love larger than A2 cards, more color mat layers, added embellishments, and often a sentiment change as well. For these cards, my tweaking involves all of those listed changes above.
Following my usual practice, I searched for possible challenges with my "Cardmaking Catch-Up" goal. I found 14 challenges that would fit that are listed below:
1) MMTPT728 - Teapot Challenge/ In A Word - 7/5/22. Challenge: Choose a word & base your card on that word. Tell us your word. My WORD is "Hugs" for Kandie our teapot recipient. See above or my BLOG for more info. My BLOG link can be found at the very bottom of these descriptions.
2) AOCC22 - All Occasion Card Challenge--July 2022 - 7/1/22. An ongoing/monthly challenge that encourages you to set goals ahead for each month to help you complete and mail your cards more timely! This is a much needed card for Kandie Ryan, a SCS friend who lost her husband in May and made for the 7/5/22 Teapot Challenge for Kandie.
3) USEIT2022 - Use It Challenge/ July 2022 - 7/1/22. An ongoing/ annual challenge that requires you to use OLD/ DUSTY and long unused items and/or OLD/NEW items purchased, never used, and seemingly forgotten! OLD/New item: Artistic Die purchased in April 2021; Banners Pick-A-Punch purchased February 2022. Time to open these up and use them!
4) WORD1021 - Fan Club Monthly Theme--October 2021/ Tickled Pink - 10/15/21. This monthly challenge is only open to Fan Club members with five challenges for each month's theme. My card meets the central theme interpretation with the Polished Pink added. My challenge is the WORD challenge for ROSE. My first letter elements are: R=ribbon, rose; O=ombre glimmer paper (butterflies), Orchid Oasis ink & ribbon; S=stencil (homemade), Starry Sky cs & ink, sentiment; E=embellishments.
5) TLC866 - Technique Challenge/ Stencil with Die-Cuts - 9/27/21. Challenge: follow challenge tutorial or SCS tutorial: Die Cut Stencils. This is the negative version of my stenciling with die-cuts. Here is the link to my other card made with the remains of my die-cut stencil: My Daughter Grows Beautiful Flowers!
6) MSP48 - Misti Monthly Mondays--August 2021 - 8/2/21. Challenge: make a friendly hello card! To me a card that says "hugs" is definitely a friendly hello!
7) WT834 - Ways to Use It Challenge/ Stencils - 3/4/21. Challenge: your card should be all about stencils. My card was made with a homemade stencil from the flower bouquet in Artistic Dies by Stampin' Up. This card is the negative inking resulting from using that stencil.
IC788 - Inspiration Challenge/ Canadian Living - 1/9/21. Challenge: Find inspiration on the Canadian Living website or Pinterest Board. The bathing suit colors & flowers affirmed that these or similar colors would be perfect for the Artistic Die stenciled flowers that I planned.
I found the swimsuit on Canadian Living: eoe10 Stylish Swimsuits that Flatter Your Figure": a right click on the swimsuit picture led me a better picture of this same suit at this URL address: Junie Swimsuit in Gardenia!
9) FS705 - Featured Stamper Challenge/ sunstamper (aka Kelly Brillhart) - 8/9/20. Challenge: Browse gallery and find a card to CASE with at least two changes. I was inspired by the butterflies, colors, and flowers in: MAR22VSNK Spring Butterfly! I kept the flowers, butterflies, and colors, but changed the technique entirely, added a large flower look, and used butterflies as an accent.
10) MIX382 - Mix-ability Challenge/ Find Your Way - 5/22/20. Challenge: make a card using stencils. My card made with my homemade die-cut stencil from the lacy flower bouquet in Artistic Dies by Stampin' Up. My mediums are: dye-based ink (brushed ink-blending), Copic marker (pearl coloring), fabric (metallic ribbon), computer ink (Chatterbox verse inside/ computer prep), glimmer paper (glittery).
11) ABC11H8 - Alphabet Challenge/ Letter H - 4/24/19. Challenge: use any item that begins with letter of the week. My item for letter H is HANDMADE stencil. The stencil I used for my card was made from a lacy floral die-cut.
12) S2S19C - Stamp 2 Save (aka Stamp 2 Support One Another) Challenge/ Celebrate with An Aussie - 1/23/19. A monthly challenge originally to make cards to earn credit to purchase more stamping products, but evolved into a place to fulfill the monthly challenge, make friends, and support one another. My card is celebrating Australia's botanical gardens. In particular the Carlton Gardens in Melbourne where the International Flower & Garden Show is held every year starting in late March through the first weekend in April. It was March 30 to April 3 in 2022. Other botanical gardens to visit are: The Australian Botanic Garden, Mt. Annan, NSW; Ballarat Botanical Gardens, N. Ballarat, Victoria; Royal Botanic Garden, Sydney, NSW; Dandenong Ranges Botanic Garden Ornamental Lake, Olinda, Victoria; Kings Park & Botanic Garden, Perth, Western Australia, etc. There are many lovely botanic gardens scattered throughout Australia's six large states.
13) CAS503 - Clean & Simple Challenge/ Simply Stencils - 10/15/18. Challenge: Use a stencil as your focal point...no stamps or dies, except sentiment okay.
14) F4A451 - Free 4 All Challenge/ Stencil Fun! - 10/12/18. Challenge: use a stencil on your project. I used a homemade stencil made from the lacy flower bouquet in the Artistic Dies by Stampin' Up.
15) Die Cut Stencils/ Wednesday Tutorials ( by Korin Sutherland) - 5/25/14. You are challenged to make your card by following the required SCS tutorial. This tutorial matches the method used in my SU teaching card class.

wow - this came out awesome ! Love the colors... that white pops out.. you did a great job on the stenciling... something I have yet to accomplish. I guess my problem is my stencils move, no matter how much I tape them down. This is a great card... love the colors...

Yay, I was hoping to see the stenciled piece. I love the vibrant colors you used to stencil the flowers. And, your stenciling looks fabulous. And how wonderful that the technique yields two beautiful cards.

This is so pretty, Carlene. I like the butterfly die cuts you added to your wonderful background. Beautiful colors and I like how you used them all on the sentiment. Lovely!

That's a great technique, I think I remember Anita using it for a TLC. Your stencilled background with the matching coloured sentiment and dainty blue butterflies is beautiful.
