I had recently bought the Stampin' Up! diorama die set and was aching to use it for the first time. I decided the mermaid challenge was the perfect. I'll admit that I was focusing more on layering than creating a scene. Were I to do it over again I would stamp fish and seaweed on the background first, then do the layering.
The background was created using a B&W piece of pattern paper (Simply Marbelous), then using a blending brush to color it the right shade of green.
The yellow seaweed and shell were stamped, die cut, and embossed to further the 3D effect. The mermaid was fussy cut with paper snips.
Foam tape was used to separate the two diorama layers from the background. The mermaid is attached to the background with a piece of foam tape, then her tail was glued to the top diorama layer.
I am rating the difficulty in making this card as a "3" out of a possible "5" simply because of the extra work embossing and layering. The card could be used to encourage someone during rough times, or at a juncture in life.
