I'm getting dressed...O4J

The MIX today is Sew What? A call to use fabric or sewing on our cards. I remember my 8th grade sewing project. It was an A-line sleeveless shift with about a 22 inch zipper in the back. I sewed my front to the back aways and then made a hole in the front when I tried to 'rip it out' and get back on track! The mistake didn't stop me from sewing...but it's really much more fun to sew with stamps and paper!

I've had my stenciled woman for long enough to forget how I exactly created her. It was a combination of sponging and spraying various inks of the TH and Tattered Angels kind. Note to self again, to jot down a few words to describe the process. I love the sass she is displaying. I knew I had to bring out SA's TH Pattern Play beautifully suited woman. Stamped onto acetate with Stazon, stapled to the edge and cut around some of the body. The zig zag line is part of a collection of sewing stitches from Ma Vinci. I stamped it directly to paper and embossed with the a chunky ep.

Pretty glassine 'buttons' adorn the suit.

The Visible Image encouragement was stamped onto the stenciled figure. Such truth...no matter how you feel: GET UP, DRESS UP, and never GIVE UP! I still love all the beautiful '60's clothing. How about you, do you have an era you just love the style or perhaps you were a young working woman, or a college student. I'd enjoy reading what your favorites were.

Thanks for stopping by...

WOW...I love how the stenciled woman and the stamped woman are of the same pose. That is so cool. And the saying is perfect to get yourself going...I really like that advise. The zig zag stitching and the acetate are wonderful touches. I remember sewing my first dress when I was 10...it was a "shift" like yours.

I love the combination of your stamped TH fashionista along with that stencilled "shadow". Every time I see you use those stamps I go and look at them, and then I realise I would probably never use them. The embossed stitching looks amazing, but my favourite thing is those chunky buttons. It reminds me of a top I once made in green wool, mandarin-style collar, with self-covered buttons. Sixties? I think I'd go earlier, I have my mother's New Look Dior dress downstairs, and a couple of other similar vintage dresses, and the black wool swing coat I made was from a Vintage Vogue forties re-release, I think.

Really creative nicely done card! I remember my 8th grade sewing project too. When we were finished we had to wear it to school. I remember that I couldn't wait for the day to be over...because I sewed my dress crooked and it felt so uncomfortable never wore it again. but
I did sew for years after my daughter was born. I think I did much better sewing than. Now my poor sewing maching just sits in a corner of my craft room negleted.

Love all the collage-like elements...the stencil lady silhouette, stitched, die-cut designer background and your pattern-play woman is very Jackie Kennedy...especially the buttons! Great card!
