My dad and stepmother had to say goodbye to one of their three Yorkshire Terriers this past weekend. I used this week's sketch as the layout to make a pet sympathy card after seeing Shoe Girl's lovely card posted using the same sketch, also for a pet sympathy card:
I used the challenge and her card for inspiration, but I was very careful to ensure that my card is completely different. I knew I wanted to incorporate pink since my dad's dog was a girl and I wanted to include the wings, along with tying in a reference to the type of dog he lost.
At first, I used a paw print background stamp with pink ink on pink card stock and then cut that into the 5 strips needed for the layout. But the tone on tone stamping came out a lot lighter than I had hoped, and you could barely see the pink paw prints. This was nagging at me so I used a single paw print stamp with a darker shade of pink ink to add paw prints to the pink strips after they were already attached to the card. I like the results much better now.
I used a dog die that has a coordinating stamp, but used the die only with black cardstock to get a silhouette effect, instead of having the stamped lines and facial features visible. I cut my own tuft of black fur for the top of the head out of a scrap of black cardstock and added the bow, which is a typical "hairstyle" for a Yorkie. I used sparkle cardstock for the wings.

A sweet card and a lovely sentiment. I like the wings! My last live-in job before I got married was in Yorkshire. My employer had a little Yorkie, he was a sweet dog.
