This card was made for The Card Concept Challenge #166 - Fresh New Year ( https://thecardconcept.blogspot.com/...-new-year.html ) in which I used both the featured colors, and the inspiration photo (roses and B&W stripes).
The combo of two pinks, black and yellow was kind of a challenge for me, but I knew I wanted to include the stripe pattern... I just angled it 45 degrees.
I had recently downloaded a beautiful rose outline from Caluya Designs that was created by Saori Caluya as an SVG cut file. I used my Brother ScanNcut digital cutting machine to draw it with a black marker instead of cut it out as it was intended. I then hand colored it using a single color of Copic marker, but using shading to get the two shades required by the challenge.
I then scanned the rose in with my SnC and created a cut outline with a 0.04" white border around it. After doing this I realized I could have just used the same file to create the outline, but it only took a minute to scan and cut it out. I cut two more outlines out to glue behind the colored version to give the card a little more dimension.
The yellow circle behind the rose is a shimmery yellow vellum that I die cut using a 3-1/4" circle die.
With the challenge theme being "A New Year" I thought I would also include a new technique I just learned this month... hot foiling since I wanted to add just a little more pink to the card for balance, so chose to hot foil the sentiment "On Your Special Day" using a Spellbinders hot foil plate with pink hot foil. The plate comes with coordinating dies so I used this to cut the what outline around the sentiment. It still seemed too isolated, so used the negative cardstock left over from the die cut and scanned it into my ScanNcut to digitize the die outline, then added a 0.04" border around it, and cut it out from pink vellum. This tied the sentiment more into the rose and made the difference in the white background of the sentiment and the white stripes not so visible.
I am rating the difficulty of this card as a "3" not because it was so hard, but because there were so many steps, two of which required specialty equipment (hot foiling system and digital cutting machine). You could create your own version by heat embossing and fussy cutting if you don't have the equipment.
