This card was made for Sweet Sketch Wednesday 2 "Welcome to 2022" challenge ( https://sweetsketchwednesday2.blogsp...e-to-2022.html ) in which participants can choose any sketch from 2021 to inspire their card. I chose sketch #212 and made it a 5"x7" gate fold card. Since the challenge has a "new" theme, I chose to use a new technique (hot foiling) and hot foil plate that had never been used!
I don't often make "girly" cards, but wanted to use my brand new Spellbinders Glimmer hot foil plate which is a floral oval. This sort of set the theme for my card, so went to my stash of pattern paper and found this lovely retired light blue floral sheet with silver outlined flowers from Stampin' Up! (SU). This meant I could use my silver holographic hot foil for the oval to establish a silver theme as well.
The gatefold card base is made using 110 lb white cardstock cut to 7"x 10" and scored on the long side at 2.5" and 7.5" to create the gatefold flaps. I then cut two pieces of the blue floral paper to 2-1/4"x 7" and glued them to the front.
The large blue floral oval was created with the Spellbinders Glimmer hot foil silver holographic foil. The size of the oval is what determined that the card would have to be larger than my standard A2. I used Lee "highlighter tape" to connect the sentiment and oval dies so that I could foil them at the same time. I hadn't done this before so, was pretty pleased how the tape held everything in place despite the high heat of the Glimmer machine.
I fussy cut the oval using paper snips. To give the oval dimension, I used my Brother ScanNCut to design 2 plain ovals that were sized to glue behind the fancy oval to give the foiled piece more "body" since it was the piece that would be lifted to open the card.
The final step was to add the pink ribbon wrap that would keep the card closed. I'll admit that I'm "bow challenged", so used my "Bow Easy" to make the bow which was attached to the ribbon band with three glue dots.
I am rating the difficulty level for this card as a "3" only because it used hot foiling. It would be a "1" or "2" if you already have a pretty oval die instead.
