My brother recently lost his wife quite suddenly and unexpectedly! It was a shock to all of us. I wanted to send him a Thinking of You card to let him know I'm keeping him in my prayers and thought each and every day!
This is a CASE of a card designed by Liz Thayer for her class that I attended way back in the fall of 2013. It has been lurking in my "To Do" stash partly completed cards. To finish, I made some modifications and changes to enlarge the card, add a bit of sparkle, and change the sentiment as well. I added two new mat layers...a Natural Ivory card base plus a dark brown glitter mat layer to the already existing layers of Crumb Cake and Bashful Blue. My card became a thinking of you card rather than a thank you card. I also decorated the inside and added my own computer-made verse.
In preparing to finish this card, I looked up what SCS make-up challenges it might fit, and I found 12, which are listed below:
1) AOCC21 - All Occasions Card Challenge/ December 2021 - 12/1/21. An ongoing/monthly challenge encourages you to set goals ahead for each month to help you complete and mail your cards more timely! This is a much need Thinking of You/ Sympathy card for my brother who recently lost his wife.
2) USEIT2021 - Use It Challenge/ December 2021. An ongoing/ annual challenge that requires you to use OLD/ DUSTY and long unused items and/or OLD/NEW items purchased, never used, and seemingly forgotten! My OLD item(s): old & retired 2013 dsp, stamps, dies, embossing folder, burlap ribbon, and glitter paper!
3) S2S21JUL - Stamp 2 Save (aka Stamp 2 Support One Another)/ Flags & Banners - 7/5/21. I have included a fishtail burlap ribbon banner on my card.
4) F4A554 - Free for All Challenge/ Stencil, Sparkle and Shine - 10/2/20. Use a stencil + add sparkle and shine...shiny papers, gems, sequins, foil, anything glittery. I've used a Paper Piercing stencil to pierce the shape of the Window Frame die-cut, which is part of the geometric/ acorn focal point. I've added glitter to my acorns and a glitter paper mat layer. My inside design includes glitter paper punched corner elements.
5) DINSP0820 - Fan Club Monthly Themes - August 2020/ Spots & Stripes! - 8/17/20. I've followed the theme of stripes with diagonal embossed stripes and a diagonal herringbone striped pattern in the stamped circle background. My card is for the Inspiration Photo Challenge. I have never been able to see the actual photo on the website, so I adlibbed! I used the one card that is posted as my inspiration. The dsps are diagonal stripes and polka dots in blues and greens, but I don't know if the photo had other colors as well. It has a vertical centered fishtail banner and stars scattered. Going by this card, I have included blue, ivory, tans and browns. My card also includes a fishtail centered banner and diagonal striped embossing with a diagonal striped herringbone stamping pattern. I used paper piercing, but no polka dots. I have used geometric shapes as did the card that was posted. Hopefully, my card somewhat fits the actual photo inspiration!
6) MMTPT624 - Teapot Challenge/ Paper Hugs - 7/7/20. Theme: comfort, thinking of you, hello, etc. Use a paper technique on your card. I have used paper piercing on my card. As I am late to the party, my thinking of you card will go to my brother, who recently lost his wife.
7) IC750 - Inspiration Challenge/ Tags - 4/18/20. On the Pinterest site provided, I found this tag for inspiration because of its nature theme and lovely blue and brown colors: https://www.pinterest.com/pin/268316090289481294/ Nature's Blues
9) ABC10N1 - Alphabet Challenge/ Round 10--Letter N - 8/29/19. Double challenge: natural. My letter N = NUTS as in acorns. Acorn nuts are naturally produced by all oak trees, and they fit natural elements found in nature.
10) CAS506 - Clean & Simple Challenge/ Ah Nuts! -11/5/18. Show acorns or a card that went wrong and you said, "Ah Nuts!" OR show fall leaves, colors, plaids or Macadamia Nut Coffee. I stuck with the acorn nuts for my card.
11) WT712 - Ways to Use It Challenge/ Burlap - 11/1/18. Use burlap on your card...I've used a burlap ribbon on my card.
12) MIX296 - Mix-ability Challenge/ Sketch - 9/28/18. Here is the link to the sketch we were to replicate: MIX296 - Sketch (9/28/2018) by dini at Splitcoaststampers MIX 296 Sketch! I have tweaked the sketch a bit. My banner underlay is centered rather than to the left. My circle is layered with another shape below. My small rectangle sentiment strip is move and center above the circle. I also cut fish-tail flags on each end. My mediums: Copic markers, glitter, stamping ink, computer ink.

Wonderful card for your brother- so sorry for all of your loss! That is so sad! I hope he will be comforted by your card. Love the background texture and the burlap as well. Thanks for making a card for my FS challenge- it is quite fun and humbling at the same time.

So very sorry for your family's loss. Your card is lovely. The burlap and muted colours are perfect as a Thinking of You card in this sad circumstance.
