My goal was to make a series of Alternative Paper Pumpkin cards as birthday cards, based on the March 2021 kit, Here's To You. Early on when I subscribed to Paper Pumpkin, my purpose and focus was to get myself back into my craft room by challenging myself to make alternative designs rather than those provided in the kit instructions.
I was not enamored with this kit when it first came, but it eventually grew on me. I was gifted with a refill kit, which would help with my ideas. In the past, I've fussy-cut parts of kits to add layering and depth, and I've loved the look it gave. I realized that with this kit, the scenes were flat and needed depth and texture. For me, that is often the problem with many kits.
I decided that this particular kit's mountain-sunrise scene could make a nice masculine card, but without the Petal Pink edging! Ugh! I wrestled with design thoughts, pulling coordinating color cardstocks. I loved the greens, blues, and blue-greens with both kit scenes, and I also found Copper foil looked absolutely marvelous with these colors. I would definitely stick to these colors and my idea of layering different scene elements. I will stay away from the pinks, yellows, and corals also prescribed, especially for masculine cards!
I plan to enter this card into Splitcoaststamper challenges while doing my own "Challenge Catch-up" cardmaking. Checking out SCS challenges, I came up with 12 challenges to enter, which are listed below:
1) AOCC21 - All Occasion Card Challenge/ October 2021 - 10/1/21. A monthly challenge encourages you to set goals ahead for each month of the year to help you complete and mail your cards timely! This is a much needed birthday card for my son's October birthday.
2) USEIT2021 - Use It Challenge/ September 2021 - 9/1/21. Ongoing/ annual challenge requiring use of OLD/ DUSTY and long unused items and/or OLD/NEW items purchased but never used and seemingly forgotten! My OLD/NEW items: an old March 2021 Paper Pumpkin kit as yet unopened when making this card, and the Coastal Weave 3D Embossing Folder.
3) IC760 - Inspiration Challenge/ Happy Walls Pinterest Board - 6/20/21. I found this inspiration: Evergreen Wallpaper--radial button #4. This serene mountain scene was what I hoped my card would capture!
4) MIM0521 - Fan Club Monthly Themes--May 2021/ Family Tree - 5/17/21. MORE IS MORE Challenge: show a minimal version and your more stepped up version. This is a Paper Pumpkin kit. The first mountain-sunrise version is the suggested design provided by the kit. Here is a look at it: Paper Pumpkin-March 2021: Here's to You--kit version #1. The second, more stepped up card, is my alternative design for the same mountain-sunrise scene.
5) S2S20DEC - Stamp 2 Save (aka Stamp 2 Support One Another)/ Birthday Cards - 12/3/20. This is a birthday card for my youngest son.
6) MMTPT632 - Teapot Challenge/ Make It Pop! - 9/1/20. Challenge: put something on your card that pops or use a bright POP of color. My card employs both...the mountain scene is popped up from the cardbase with dimensionals and the Calypso Coral sunrise sky adds a POP of color.
7) ABC13N14 - Alphabet Challenge/ Letter N - 7/1/20. My letter N = Nature/ National Park. My card features nature in all its glory...a beautiful scene one might find in any one of our three national parks: the Olympic National Park, Mt. Rainier National Park, and North Cascades National Park. All parks host beautiful mountain scenery.
MIX364 - Mix-ability Challenge/ Positively You - 1/17/20. Challenge: Pick positive words or a positive quote and base your card on it. My quote: "How glorious a greeting the sun gives the mountains." by John Muir. Mediums: stamping ink, Wink of Stella, computer ink.
9) WT755 - Ways to Use It Challenge/ A Tisket a Tasket, Show Me a Basket - 8/29/19. Challenge: make a card inspired by baskets...basket image, basket weave, 3D basket, etc. I've added a basket weave embossed strip to my card.
10) CAS539 - Clean & Simple Challenge/ Summer Activities - 6/24/19. Challenge: celebrate fun summer activities that say you. My scene represents a mountain scene, easily found in Washington, where the entire family likes to have our family camp week every summer.
11) F4A486 - Free 4 All Challenge/ Sunny Skies - 6/14/19. Challenge: let see the sun on your card. My card is a mountain sunrise scene.
12) FS643 - Featured Stamper Challenge/ nickel pickle - 6/2/19. Nicky has such a fun gallery to browse. It was packed with fun cards! I chose this card: Elephant Pop-Up card! for its wonderful array of colors, all of which I think I used, except pink. My similar shade is more like a coral-orange, which is more fitting for my masculine adult card. I also left off the elephant for same reason...adult vs. children!

Carlene, this is very cool. I felt the same way about that PP kit. I think Ihave only used it once. I love what you did with it. The texture of the embossed panel and the twine give it a masculine feel for sure, and I also love how you die cut the circle and usef it. I am going to dig out my kit and see what I can do with it. Thanks for the inspiration. Pinning this.
