Mary is our hostess in the Color Challenge this week, and she has given us three beautiful colors to work with: Cinnamon Cider, Polished Pink and Coastal Cabana. The dessert option this week is: Anything Goes. My dessert option is Christmas. I decided to try using these colors for a non-traditional Christmas card. Well, the image is traditional, but the colors aren't!
I started by stamping the main image on watercolor paper using Vintage Photo Distress Archival Ink. I masked the image with a double layer of transfer tape (whole new technique for me to try), and then sprayed liberally with water and Distress Spray Stains and Distress Oxide Sprays, both in Salvaged Patina (my sub for Coastal Cabana) and Kitsch Flamingo (my sub for Polished Pink). I sprayed in layers, drying after each one. There are some interesting color variation where the two colors blended into a kind of purple shade.
When the background was dry (overnight), I watercolored the image, using the same shades. By mixing them, I achieved a brown color that I used for the broom, hat, etc. I did mix up a color near to Mossy Meadow, a neutral, for the leaves. I used Tarnished Brass Distress paint for the detail on the larger ornament.
Splattered with white paint, stamped the greeting with VersaMark and gold heat embossed. Stamped some random script images and darkened the edges. Added a few sequins.
Thanks for taking a look! I'm interested to see your creations with these pretty colors, and excited to hear all the different dessert options this week!

I love your dreamy background, Barbara! Its perfect with these colors and you sentiment. I think the spattered paint puts it over the top for me. It's such a great look and I should remember to do it more often.

Beautifully done with the challenge colors. Love how you created the background. A lovely vintage look with some bling. You had sequins in the perfect colors! The gold embossing is so pretty. The white paint splatter is excellent. Great card!
