Today's Watercolor Wednesday Challenge was right up my alley. Thanks for giving us a fun and easy challenge for your first WCW challenge, Stacy. And I always enjoy watching Ellen's videos because her accent sounds so natural to me. I went looking for a good reference photo for my painting. I wanted a lighthouse near me, and I found Castle Hill Lighthouse in Newport, RI.
I sketched it out in pencil first, then went back over the lines in fine Sharpie. This was so quick and easy to add the watercolor washes to the inky sketch. Totally my style and very fun. I'm not sure I can part with this card. Good thing I made two. You can see both on my blog today: The Stamping Actuary
I painted one on Agave watercolor paper and one of Bamboo mixed media paper. I took a side by side picture to show the difference.
This card will also go to this week's Tea Party recipient. A coworker asked if I could make a card for her to send. That's why I specifically wanted to find a Rhode Island lighthouse, to remind him that he has a lot of support over here in Southern New England.
This also fits Pat's Dare to Get Dirty Challenge!

Beautiful job replicating your photo while making this totally your own. Super loose is super hard for me so I really love that you could keep so much white space in your watercolor.

Love, love this beautiful relaxing scene you've watercolored. I can see why you are having trouble parting with it!! Your sentiment is so true and I know Tom will agree!

Your painting is beautiful and totally looks like the RI pic in the link. Brava on the drawing and the WC. Love, love, love the Martin Luther quote and so appropriate for both the situation and that Tom is a nature lover. Stunning card, Jen. Lots of love here.
Oh, I am glad you have two so you can keep one! This is gorgeous! I found the water in your photo so soothing after a rather rough day. Your painting is wonderful. You did a great job with the drawing and painting!
