Edward was born in Manchester, England and moved to Australia around 1913, although we can find no immigration records. He had been in the British 14th Kings Hussars from 1901 to 6th May, 1913 and enlisted in the Australian Imperial force on 13th May, 1913. He was medically discharged, then re-enlisted on September 9th, 1914, when the war began. He has a very interesting war record, but was plagued with bronchitus. He married, had five children and died in Australia.
In 1913, he was described as 5ft 8n, 186lbs, grey eyes, fair hair and a scar on his head in the left frontal region.
