It's 5 years since I made my first summer sampler, and I've never been totally happy with it. I love my autumn, spring and winter inserts, so I decided it was time to make a new summer one.
The white base squares are 2 1/4" square, matted onto 2 3/8" black, and then a 9" square of cream, scored at 3" and 6". The yellow layer has scoring detail too.
Top left: base sponged with Mermaid Lagoon DOX, Antique Linen distress. Stamped with sand from Shore Thing, spattered with water. Aleene's Glitter Snow for the surf line. The flip-flops are Top Dog Dies, the starfish is IO, cut from a random scrap.
Top centre: In Full Bloom for the daisy, stamped and masked. Sponged in the sky and grass. Stamped the poppies (Purple Onion: Garden Blooms), and added BoBunny butterfly. Kittie Kits garden master was used for adding detail to the grass.
Top right: This was the last square I made, the sheep was DH's suggestion - Penny Black: Butterflies and Ewe. I sponged the grass and cloudy sky, and pieced extra bits of sheep on - the body is embossed and buffed with paint and luster rub-ons. The little flower is Nuvu Accents, and the butterflies are also extras popped-up, and sparkling with SN clear glitter pen.
Centre left: background embossed with a brocade ef and buffed with luster rub-ons. The frame is Penny Black, and the bird is from Serendipity Stamps (Birdies), painted with Inktense pencils.
Centre: watercoloured tissue paper with some Aged Teal chunky EP. The seaweed dies are SU's Under the Sea, and the seahorse is Eline's Collectables from Marianne, cut from assorted scraps. Textured DP and Prills along the bottom, and some sparkly Nuvo Drops.
Centre right: In Full Bloom, the foliage stamped on the base which was first sponged with Peeled Paint, then coloured with Polychromos and some white gel pen for detail. The flowers were stamped on a dictionary page sprayed yellow, one is popped up on foam. The bee is also from In Full Bloom.
Bottom left: Lots of careful masking to combine the gate from Purple Onion's Garden Blooms so that it would fill the width of the square. The flowers are actually Unity's Boots, Class and a lil Sass - I thought I had some sunflower stamps or dies that would be a good fit, but evidently I didn't. The hoe and watering can are also Purple Onion.
Bottom centre: Purple Onion Blooms, coloured with Polychromos. The tiny bees are Penny Black, the little snail is Sprout from Purple Onion.
Bottom right: sea sponged with Mermaid Lagoon, dotted with glue and sprinkled with Cosmic Shimmer Glitter Jewels. Torn textured paper for the sand. The pilings are from StarvingArtistamps, and the cute little gulls are Eline's Collectables.
