This is for today's IC, which is a very fun site (thanks, Amy!) and yesterday's MIX-a wreath. Worked out well to combine them. I'm also adding this to the WT earth day challenge, since I used a recycled piece for some of the flowers.
This is a card for my daughter Liz, for Mother's Day and 'just because'. She has been 'in hot water' for several years; for three years, she supported her husband Scott as he went to school to change careers from an academic life to nursing. Then she lived through him getting a night shift as a nurse on the neuro floor. Then Covid happened; she learned to work from home as a mental health counselor to the university students, still supporting Scott as he worked nights. Then he moved to another job working only with Covid patients, day shift. She and Scott have been home schooling my granddaughters for over a year, so when Scott works, she has to use FMLA because she can't do counseling and help the girls with school that day. They tried to get the girls back to live school this winter but their school is small and, because the class sizes have been even smaller and several teachers were teaching virtual only, there was no room for my girls. And, to top it all off, she and a colleague have started a private counseling practice, with the goal of leaving the university counseling this summer. This has added a lot of stress, trying to get the word out, counseling at night after counseling students all day. Then there is the keeping up the house. Scott will have to find another nursing job with benefits, as she has been carrying them ever since he left the academic world. Eleanor Roosevelt was so right...women are like teabags.
I used dies to cut the wreath and the added embellishments with only pieces from my stash: alcohol ink backgrounds and shaving cream backgrounds for the most part. One of the ai pieces is a textured foil tear off from some kind of food container, can't remember what it was, so that's the recycling bit. I added sequins and Nuvo Drops to keep everything kind of shiny and bling-ful, because this is what I was inspired by: https://shopsweetlulu.com/products/s...15859513032798
Underneath the wreath is a tiny dot stencil using DOx inks in lavender, pink and green. I used wc paper because I thought about spraying or splattering something on it but that didn't happen. I hope to see Liz before Mother's Day so I can hand deliver this, with maybe a little tea gift.

What an absolutely gorgeous wreath, Jean. I love the colours in it, and all that sparkle and shimmer and shine. Very effective design with the aperture in the centre.

I love this gorgeous card. I am sure your daughter will too. That is a wonderful quote from Eleanor Roosevelt and it sounds like your daughter has been in more than her share of hot water. I have been praying hard for all our young families having to raise kids during this pandemic. They have had some rough issues to deal with and educating children has given them even more added responsibilities to their roles as parents.

WOW this is so pretty...the flowers on the wreath are just yummy and I love the tiny dots in the bg. I've always like that quote..and it certainly is appropriate for your daughter...sounds like she's carrying a lot especially with the addition of all the covid restrictions. I hope things go better for her in the coming months. Of course she does have a strong woman role model she can turn to ;)

Oh my gosh, your daughter is going through a lot and this card is so perfect for her. In the end, all she is doing will pay off and things will be better but it sounds like she is very strong. My youngest is a manager at a retail store that has stayed open this whole time, a single Mom and taking a full load of classes to try and finish her degree. I need to go make her a card like this.
Love the wreath, love the details, love the sentiment, but love the love and story behind this even more. Sweet card. You are a sweet Mom.
