Those who know me know that I am not a fold card maker girl. Not that I don't like them...I love them. They just scare me......however this year I plan to try and make some. This is for DIL2's birthday that is coming up. I wanted to make something extra special for her and when I saw a video on Youtube on how to make this card I thought I would give it a go.
Phew...I wish it was as easy for me as the lady in the video made it look. She did, however, use scored dies for her cut and also for the front of her card out of a co-ordinating die pack. I had to improvise.
First I used a die to cut the window inside the back panels which once you see the inside of this card you will know what I'm talking about LOL. Now for me that was tricky and after 3 attempts I finally got it right. A little wonky and not scored....which I did afterwards and made up my own measurements but it worked just fine.
Die cut the scallop circle and middle panel. So far so good. Die cut a large tag and stamped my sentiment....again this will make sense if you look at the inside of the card. I thought I was doing really good by this stage until I put my tag in the pull part I made using tape and found that when I pulled it, the sentiment had been stamped on the wrong part of the tag....doh, doh, doh!
I am not someone to be put off by small challenges, so I simply took my tag out and stamped it where it was supposed to go making sure that it fitted into the window I had cut. I was tempted to start all over but it looked so pretty and I didn't have the energy to start again.
Back to the card....I knew that where I had stamped the first sentiment a gift card would cover it, so I simply covered the tag with more DP...phew another close shave.
Once my pull tag and window sentiment were working ok I added ribbon to the tag and wrote the word "Pull" however the circle covers this up so that was unnecessary LOL. Oh well. The window was a little wonky and in the video the lady had mentioned about adding embellishments to cover. So I did, as well as some distress inks. It's not perfect but given my first attempt I'm ok with it.
Added a temporary gift card to make sure all worked ok and finished....after I don't know how many hours LOL. Seriously it wasn't that bad and I will definitely make another at some stage now I know what I was supposed to do.
The morale of this story is...always watch the whole video first and don't rush ahead thinking you know what's coming next...as in my case I found I had thought it wrong LOL. Thankfully I managed to rescue it.
TFL. Happy day

One of the very first cards I tried to make was a swing card. I thought good old scissors would be enough to cut a decent window. WOW-little did I know the difference a die would make. Now there are hundreds of dies in my craft space, all lovingly used in their proper time and place. Kudos for persistence and learning. TFS.

Wow- this beautiful card does not look 'rescued'! I love your advise to watch the video to the end and not assume you know what is next. You always make me smile. Love this card!

One would never know the twists and turns you took to make this card Jayne...it's beautiful...both the colors and the fancy fold! So glad you stuck with it...the end result is gorgeous and your DIL is sure to love it!
Oh, my goodness! Jayne I saw this in the samples in the challenge and loved it! And, then came to look at yours, and it was the one I loved. Great job! The whole process sounds like what I go through to make a special fold card! LOL. Most of the time when I get done, I am saying to myself , won’t ever do that again! LOL. Your DIL will love this!

Perseverance pays off. This turned out beautifully with your artist adjustments. I am with you. I don't care for the extra time these fancy fold cards require and the perfection of measuring and placement. But they are sensational cards!

What a pretty gift. I know just what you mean about the fancy folds. I'm right there with you. They always make them look so easy, but I struggle too. But this is gorgeous and you did a fantastic job.
