Lydia's MIX challenge this week is Fat over Lean - a cool technique or concept oil painters use. I set off to try it since it was cool. My page started out with gesso and I was trying for a sunset colored sky, but the texture from the gesso and my handmade cloud stencil were not cooperating in a few places. I covered those with torn book pages. I used gesso on them and the first two pieces worked well but by the third piece there was some smearing... so more pieces were added, then some additional stenciling so my technique is lean, lean, fat, lean, fat, lean or something like that.
Watercolored my doowoods and arranged them. Then was stuck for a day. Remembered this damaged photo of my Grandmother. She is one in the middle with the cool hair and fun skirt. She was so much fun - I would have loved to have known her back then. My Great-Grandparents are on the left and not sure who the others are. I cut the damaged part of the photo off (it had been pulled off an old black scrapbook page).
Thanks for the inspiration Lydia!

Nancy I like how you used torn book pages on this and a cool effect with the Fat and Lean technique. The flowers make the page pop. Great journal page. TFS. Happy day and hugs

What an awesome page, Nancy! I love the text pieces and the greens and how they blend into clouds. The Blossoming branch fits right in like a little garden scene! So Creative!
