The Ways to Use It Challenge (WT835 - Itâs Sentimental - 3/11/21) was to use a large sentiment as the focal point of the card. Sentiment could be stamped or die cut. The background could be patterned paper, stenciled design or background technique - however, there was to be NO additional stamping.
I missed seeing the instructions that said there was to be no additional stamping used for the background design! Sigh....what did I use in the background of my large diecut sentiment? A stamped image background!
After spending several hours making this card for the challenge, I am uploading it despite the breaking-of-the-challenge-rules. The Stamp Challenge Police are likely to issue me a citation for this infraction. They may also cite me for running with scissors and not putting the cap back on the glue bottle...yes, I am a renegade stamper!
This card was pretty simple to design but was ticky-tacky to complete. The diecut sentiment needed a red layer in back of it to make it more noticeable (I scooted it up a bit to make it show before the glue set up.)
The bear image was watercolored with distress ink and then I added shiny details like Crystal Drops for the claws and wheels and a dot of black Nuvo Vintage Drops for the bears eye.
This used bear stamp is new to my collection from EBay. In my search to find a manufacturer for the stamp (unsuccessful!), I did discover a fun historical reference to Alice, the worldâs only roller skating bear. She performed around the US and in Europe in the early 1900âs. Hereâs a link to the story about Alice:

What a fun image and story, Susy. I know you're not the only one who missed the "no other stamping" ;-). I love the pop of red with your soft bear colours. Alice reminds me a lot of my much-loved childhood books about Mary Plain. I think she might have roller-skated, but of course she was only fictional.
