I must admit, I went a bit over-the-top for this gift card holder challenge. I saw a video on YouTube recently by Sam Calcott at Mixed Up Craft. She showed how to make a sampler box that you can put chocolate bars, etc., in, with a gift card holder in the lid. I loved it, so followed her tutorial to make my own.
I used heavyweight Bazzill Card Shoppe cardstock for the box itself. I cut, scored, and folded the pieces to create the box, as per the instructions. I also did the optional step of adding an acetate window to the top of the box inside.
The lid is an optional piece, but I figured, why not? It is basically the length & width of the box, with an extra 1"-tall flap to glue to the back of the box. I added patterned papers to the inside & outside of the lid, from the "Christmas Candyland" pad. I used the 1-2-3 Punch Board to make a small envelope for a gift card. I ended up cutting off the top flap of the envelope, and gluing the rest to the inside of the box lid, with the back side facing out to make it easier to get the gift card out. I plan to fill the bottom part with coffee & tea sample packs from a local coffee merchant, and give it to my mom for Christmas. With a Barnes & Noble gift card inside, of course!
