The card sample by Ann (annsforte3) for Lori's challenge inspired the imagery for my card. I used the cardinal die from "Color Layering Cardinal" to cut out my birds from watercolor paper. For the female cardinal, I just flipped the die cut over so she is facing the opposite direction. I then used my watercolors to paint them. I have a Pinterest board with reference photos of various birds, so I used 2 of those pictures to guide my colors. Once the paint was dry, I added in the eye on each with a black glaze pen, and used a white gel pen to put in a catch light.
I set up the branch stamp from "Holiday Style" in my MISTI. I used my Tombow markers to ink the stamp, misted it with a bit of water, and stamped it onto mixed media paper. I spritzed the stamped image with water, and let the color bleed out on the paper, so I wouldn't have a white outline when I die cut the branch. When the color had spread enough, I dried it with my heat tool. Then I repeated the stamping to get the image a bit less mushy. Once I had one branch done, I stamped a second one. After the paper had dried thoroughly, I die cut each branch with the coordinating die.
I cut a panel of Icy Mint cardstock for my card front. I positioned each bird, and kind of wove the branches around the birds--mainly to hide the fact that they have no feet! LOL I glued the birds & branches to the panel. I also glued on a 3rd branch sprig that I'd stamped just like the first two, just partially inking the stamp. Finally, I cut off the overhanging bits, & adhered my panel to a white card base.
