Our teapot party today is entitled, "Open Your Eyes" and we are encouraged to share how we have felt this year and to look for beauty.
This year has been one of loss for us. Among them, my mother-in-law passed away prematurely at the age of 75 after surgery to amputate both legs failed to stop the infection ravaging her body. A dream vacation had to be cancelled. My husband lost his job 3 weeks ago and today my father-in-law tested positive for COVID-19. What a year this has been!
The blues on my card represent the waves and depth of sadness and loss we have experienced in 2020. Yet in spite of all this we have seen the beauty and goodness all around. Friends and neighbours supporting us and each other as they are able. Working from home enabled us to experience the changing seasons in ways the daily commute and time away from home never does. Nearly every day we opened our curtains to see a doe and her fawns in our yard, once looking right into our front window. We watched the woodpeckers, finches, blue jays and other birds enjoy the bird bath and feeders. We enjoyed the antics of squirrels and chipmunks. A mallard duck and her ducklings found a puddle in our yard after a day of rain and splashed around there for a bit. Our garden flourished and we harvested an abundance of apples from our tree. We have been blessed in wonderful ways. I am reminded of words from an old hymn: His eye is on the sparrow and I know he watches me.
The blue bg is pieced together with strips from paint chips. The embellished eye was found online and printed. I guess I'm only going to get 1/2 a cookie this week as I only have 1 eye. This is going out to a fellow teapotter. Hope it tickles her fancy and yours too. Enjoy!

Your card is beautiful and thought provoking...I'm sorry for all your losses this year...and yet with all of that you are able to see some positives....friends' kindnesses and natures beauty....May the coming year be better for you.
Wow! This is soooo striking! That eye! I love your joke about getting half a cookie. I liked reading how this represents your 2020. Every year brings good things and bad things but this one is unique in that it has brought the SAME sort of things to ALL of us so we can easily relate to one another. Love and Hugs!

I am so sorry for the loss of your MIL, and praying your FIL testing positive for Covid. I sure hope you can get your dream vacation rescheduled. I have not had a day off work for over a year now as my company took away all vacation time and so I Understand the need for a vacation so much right now. Sending hugs your way. Gorgeous card for the challenge.

The background and the eye are both great. Gosh, that's been a hard year for you for sure. I hope your FIL makes a good recovery, and that your DH will find a new job. I'm envious of the chipmunks and the woodpeckers, neither of which we have here. I agree, watching nature has been one of the brighter spots this year.

Wow, the eye is so striking -- it's an amazing find. And I'm a big fan of paint chips and ombre.
So sorry to hear about your rough year and all your losses Vicky. Sending a virtual hug.

Your eye is literally "eye-popping" beautiful. I love that the colors look both a bit like tears but studded with those beautiful flowers. Perfectly represents the year so many are having.
I am so sorry for the losses you have experienced this year. I hope your FIL has a light case and a quick recovery. And, I am inspired that you have found much good in the world just by looking out your window. I hope that beauty and love continue to stream into your home. Hugs and Stay safe.
