This week, the Teapotters are going to the Kentucky Derby. (Virtually, since a: it's not until Sept. 4 and b: spectators aren't allowed in this year anyway). I used bits and pieces to get the Derby idea across, tied together by the checklist I created and printed out. I purchased the horse-themed paper years ago when my son started college; the uni's mascot is a horse, and I planned to use it for his graduation card, then went with something else when he got his diploma. The hat was line art I found via Google, cut from DP. I then added the ribbon, feathers (raided from my husband's fly-tying stash), and flower sticker to make it a suitably fancy Derby hat. I drew the mint julep on metallic silver paper based on a photo I saw online. There's crushed-up vellum to signify ice, and a few green snippets to be mint leaves. (The only time time I've ever actually had a mint julep was at a derby party where I'm pretty sure it was served in a Dixie cup or something, definitely not silver.)

You definitely have all the derby high points covered. I wonder how many real Southern Belles will dress up to watch the race on TV?? Southern traditions carry on - no matter what!

That hat and Denise's look as if they had come from the same milliner ;-), with a taste in feathers and flowers. I'm glad you finally found the perfect use for that horse paper. I actually had to look mint julep up, because while I had heard of them, I wasn't sure what the main ingredient was. It sounds as if it could be quite nice! I'm not a whiskey fan, but I had a whiskey sour when I was in the States and would take that again. Thanks for a fun challenge, Sandy. Still hoping to get time to do something with my hat stamps tomorrow as I have the day off.
