This card was made for a card challenge that had two parts: Use hot or cold embossing, and feature your favorite critter.
I had just gotten the new Stampin' Up! (SU) "Pampered Pets", so I knew I wanted to create a sympathy card for some friends who recently lost their golden retriever, Marty.
I was inspired by Diane Pugliese's beautify pet sympathy card she had created for a late June 2020 "Paper Players" card challenge (http://weeinklings.blogspot.com/2020...red-pets.html). It really impressed me, but I didn't want to replicate her gorgeous creation... instead I changed the colors, some of the layers, the the card size. Thank you, Diane, for inspiring me and allowing me to use your card to get my creative juices flowing!!!
Since the card challenge I am making this for requires embossing, I used a REALLY old (2005) Fiskars texture plate called "Paws" to dry emboss the black background, and the pink rectangle that features the dog. I used my Big Shot with a rubber embossing mat and standard plate.
The dog was stamped in black ink, then hand colored with Copic markers. I then scanned him using my Brother ScanNCut digital cutting machine, and cut him out with a 0.04" border. Using the cut file I created, I then cut two more outline shapes of the dog and glued them to the back of my colored image to give it dimension and depth.
The column of puppy prints was created by finding a free paw print SVG file on the web, and duplicating it, then aligning them all one above the other. Using the file, I then cut two sets of these paw prints from thick white cardstock, glued one on top of the other, then backed them with a narrow piece of black cardstock.
The final element of my card was the sentiment. I really like the SU "Modern Label" punch (which in now retired, unfortunately) because it is sort of shaped like a bone. I stamped the sentiment using black ink onto white cardstock, then punched it out. I wanted a pink mat around it, so scanned the "hole" that was left from punching the bone, and added 0.08" border to make it bigger than the original punched label. I then digitally cut this pink pat out with my ScanNCut.
Because of all my layering, I used some tiny adhesive dots on the back of the matted pink rectangle on the right side to level it, then glued the stacked dot cutout on top. The sentiment label also used these tiny dots to raise it off the card front.
I am rating the difficulty level of this card as a "3" out of a possible "5" just because I didn't have the punch set that matches the SU "Pampered Pets" stamp set. If you have both the stamps and matching dies, I would lower the difficulty level to a "2".
I think my friends will appreciate receiving this card in memory of Marty.
