I remember my 40th birthday very well, almost 28 years later. I was working at a small clothing store, it was Sidewalk Sale Day (we called it Maxwell Street Days), so I was working a ton, not happy about it, and low and behold, there was a surprise party when I got home! A trend then was to put a sign in the front yard with the 'Lordy, Lordy, Jean is 40', hence the title. My son in law Scott is 40 on Sunday...amazing, I feel like I've known him all my life. Both of my kids are not yet 40, thank goodness, but it's a-comin'.
I have a bunch of salted wc backgrounds in my stash, so that's what I used. I love this technique! I don't remember what watercolors we used, a friend and I did it together and used her supplies. It worked well on wc paper but I will try it on glossy. The background is a piece of white cs with several gray SU inks blended on. I also used today's sketch, which I liked very much. I love simplicity in layouts.
Scott and family are heading west to spend his birthday with his Mom so this card will be waiting for him when they arrive home.

Oh, how great to have those wonderful salted backgrounds on hand. I have nothing on hand. Ha... or should I say Boo Hoo? I think so. Super card for your SIL and I really like your gold sentiment. Your surprise birthday must have been awesome.

What a fun story, and a fun card as well! Love the triple on the side. (My youngest will be 49 in November. Her eldest brother was 55 in January. I am OLD!)
