What a fun challenge this was! I brought "nylon" hot air balloons and because I had fun paper piecing last week, I decided to do it again this week. I stamped the cluster of balloons in the top right on blue card stock, then "clouded" my bg using both shimmer white and a darker blue ink. Paper pieced the foreground image with dotted paper. I had no idea I have dotted paper in every colour available!
Years ago, I won't tell you how many, hubby and I celebrated our 50th birthdays by travelling from the Canadian prairies down to Albuquerque, NM to attend the International Hot Air Balloon Festival. There were over 900 hot air balloons in every shape and colour lifting off together. What a sight! And of course, we made sure we caught a ride too!
Thanks for looking. Enjoy!

If your hot air balloons have gone missing, you will find them in My Favs. Wow Vicky I nearly fell off my chair when I read you paper pieced the big dotty balloon - amazing!! Loved your write up too, what great memories. Annie is going to love this for sure.

These balloons are great! I can't believe you paper pieced each of those dotted papers...what patience! Fantastic card to celebrate Annie's 80th birthday. I'm jealous that you got to do a hot air balloon ride..always wanted to do that. Sounds like a fun time.

I've seen pictures of that festival and this card definitely reminds me of that. Wonderful balloons and your paper piecing is magnificent! I love your "clouded" background. It looks very realistic. I think this will make Annie's spirits soar when she receives this gift. Beautiful.

What great balloons - I like the twine you used to hang the basket from the one in the foreground. Wow, it must have been an amazing sight to see so many in one place.

How many hundreds of yards of nylon fabric does it take to make a hot air balloon? That rhetorical question actually intrigued me so I went looking (minimum 1000 yards of 60 ft wide fabric) - That is a LOT of nylon!! Great job on your paper pieced balloon . .
PS- I''ve also been to the Albuquerque Balloon festival several times (once once the fairgrounds as the balloons were being laid out and heated for lift off)- it is Awesome

My brother lived in ABQ for several years, so I went twice. It's amazing! And I've always wanted to take a hot air balloon ride, so we made sure to get out there too. So worth the trip from New England! You've created a perfect hot air balloon scene! I love the paper piecing!

Your clouds are perfection. Very subtle in the background, and then your big bright beautiful balloons. And paper pieced no less. This is an awesome card, Vicky!
