When I saw Kiaâs watercolour challenge this week I knew I wanted to have a go. I also thought I could combine it with the S2S challenge....making a âniceâ card. Iâm not sure if I have met this challenge but itâs a start.
I decided to go with the rough side of THâs paper....it depends on my mood and today I wanted texture. Susie had inspired me after seeing her watercolour card.
I decided to put some gesso on first...why?....I find when Iâm adding inks, colour it just seems to work better. Plus I like it LOL.
Stencil out and texture paste added. Watercolours out and Iâm smooshing my acetate panel on each colour. There are about 4 or 5 different pinks, purples and 3 greens and yellow on there...lots of layers. I dried in between each colour as Iâve been caught out by this before and ended up with mud.
I didnât go back to watch the video on this technique and must do that later, but what I found was that by picking the colour up directly from my mat onto the acetate didnât smoosh as well as when I used my brush and smooshed paint onto it. I did this with the greens and found more colour went onto the panel. The pinks seemed to take for ages and I had more colour left on my acetate and mat than on the panel. Maybe my technique was wrong and I will definitely try this again.
I decided after I had done all of my smooshing that I would smoosh one last colour...one of my golden Kuretake paints. I wanted sparkle. I did both smooshing and flicking and the photo doesnât do it justice but it is so sparkly in places.
Rose stamped...one of my favourite stamps and it was at this moment that I was trying out tags from out of my stash and other sentiments when I remembered Lynnâs challenge to be kind. I have this stamp set that I blame Jennifer McGuire for enabling me LOL after watching one of her videos...gosh it must be 2 years ago at least. This is the first time I have inked it up. I just feel I shouldnât be going around telling people to be kind on a card LOL. However, today I thought why not. Itâs more about how I feel and not to preach.
Sentiment stamped and thank goodness for my Misti. I must have stamped the rose and sentiment at least 6 or more times. Maybe deciding to use textured card has something to do with it.
The panel was slightly big for my CS so I trimmed it down slightly and then saw it wasnât wide enough. Out came my sparkly washi tape and sparkly twine.
I recommend giving this technique a go. Itâs easy and it can give a cool effect or create a nice BG.
TFL. Happy day

Jayne, this so awesome, on so many levels. I love the soft colour, and the fabulous texture. The rose is beautiful, just a perfect image for this gorgeous background.

Glad to see this fantastic card in the challenge this week. You wanted texture and texture you got. Like how you could put the colors were you wanted them with the acetate. Thanks for all your detailed deets. Striking card. TFS

Adding the gesso was an inspired choice...it gives it such a wonderfully unique look with your smooshing. Beautiful card and a great sentiment...we should all follow that advise every day...it doesn't take much to bring a smile to someone else.

So happy you played in the watercolor challenge this week and made this very pretty card. I like how you got the gold in there and glad you got to use that stamp set. I love the sentiment and it definitely doesn't sound preachy....just a good and true statement.
