Here's how I make my accordion card bases. You can add your 'candles' to the card base after assembled or you can adhere single panels to each section.
(Sorry, the "bottom view" is actually a "top view" and should have been above the primary image).
For candles: I've used bits of CS, DSPs, and washi tape.

Thanks for the template directions. There is a 50th birthday coming up in our family and I thought I might try an accordion card. You have made the "engineering" so much easier!
