I created this sympathy card for Online Card Classes' "Spring Card Camp 2." Kristina Werner's lesson on Day 1 of class inspired the masking technique. This is actually Version 2.0 of this card. The masking paper stuck quite well to the panel on my first attempt, so that it ripped the cardstock when I pulled it away. So the second time, I made sure not to burnish the masking paper too much, and also used my heat tool when I pulled it off to "encourage" the adhesive to release.
I die cut the hearts from masking paper, making a frame. I set aside the middle heart frame for a different project, & used the negative of the outside and the center heart to mask my cardstock panel. I ink blended with Distress inks, creating a gradient, then stamped several small images with Black Shimmer ink.
After I removed the masks, I stamped my greeting in the center with Black Shimmer ink. I had gotten a little ink around the outer mask (it apparently didn't cover the whole panel), so I trimmed 1/8" off from each side to make it 5-1/4x4". I adhered that to a white card base and that finished this card.
